Buffalo Traffic Violations Bureau (TVB) Closing: Good News for Drivers

by Seth Azria on 7/27/2015

Buffalo TVB Closed July 1, 2015

On July 1, 2015, the Buffalo Traffic Violations Bureau ceased handling traffic cases for the traffic tickets issued in the City of Buffalo. Instead, the tickets will be handled by the newly formed Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency located in Buffalo City Hall. See NY DMV announcement.

Good News for Drivers: No More "Plea or Try" in Buffalo

Buffalo’s move away from the TVB system gives drivers ticketed in Buffalo the same opportunity for plea bargaining that drivers have when ticketed in most other parts of the state. New York City and Rochester still have the TVB system that forces drivers to either plead guilty or have a trial but does not offer any reductions via plea bargaining.

Opportunity for Plea Bargaining and Reductions of Buffalo Traffic Tickets

The Buffalo Traffic Violations Agency judges will have the same authority to accept plea bargains as the city, town, and village court judges around the state. This is a big change for drivers ticketed in the City of Buffalo who now may seek a reduction of the charges that they face. See Buffalo News; Channel 4 News.

For the City of Buffalo, the move away from the state entity to a local adjudication of the tickets could mean as much as $2,000,000 in annual revenue.

As traffic defense attorneys, we are pleased that the City of Buffalo has decided to make this move. Please feel free to call us (315) 364-1155 or email about your traffic tickets issued in the City of Buffalo.
