Existing Driving License Suspensions Terminated Without a Fee

The NYS DMV will terminate all open suspensions for failure to appear issued under NYS VTL Sections 226(3), 227(4) and 510 (4-a), without collection of a suspension termination fee, except for suspensions for failure to appear resulting from violations of VTL 385 or tax law or transportation laws relating to traffic.

Installment Payment Plans for Fines Must be Offered by Courts

Installment payment plans for fines, surcharges and any related fees, including suspension termination fees, imposed for violations of the NYS VTL or other law relating to traffic, must now be offered by the court.

Courts May Waive Any Fine or Surcharge in the Interest of Justice

Courts and hearing officers shall have the discretion, in the interest of justice, to waive any fine and surcharge assessed for violation of the VTL or other laws relating to traffic.
